Director of the Silver Taiga Foundation Przemyslaw Majewski took part in the 13th meeting of the Montreal Process Advisory Committee, which started on the 2d of July in the UN office in Moscow and continued in Suzdal, Vladimir region.
The Montreal Process is an international intergovernmental initiative formed in 1994 for the purpose of harmonization and adoption of criteria and indicators of sustainable management for boreal and temperate forests. The Process Working Group consists of 12 countries: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, the Russian Federation, the United States, and Uruguay. These 12 countries are responsible for 83% of the world’s temperate and boreal forest (further details about the Montreal Process can be found at website www.mpci.org).

Belarus is establishing Model Forest in Neman River valley near Novogrudok
| «High Conservation Value Forests» project by silverPrzemyslaw Majewski has been visiting area of future Model Forest near Novogrudok in 14-19 July 2012. Main purpose of the trip was to support Belarusian colleagues with experience in establishing Model Forest especially in local partnership building and implementation of the project.
The trip took place within Baltic Landscape Project, which is led by Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Umea and funded by Baltic Sea Program. Establishment of 5 new and strengthening of two existing Model Forests is one of Baltic Landscape objectives. The Model Forests are covering not only forests but also waters and agriculture land – they are dealing with forested landscape and to stress it they have been named Baltic Landscapes.

What shall be the Forest policy of Russia?
| News by silverDuring the two-day roundtable meeting, which took place in Bekasovo near Moscow, representatives of 17 environmental and social NGOs discussed the draft of the Forest policy of Russia – a document designed to define the policy of our state in respect of forest and forest use for the next ten years.
Together with NGOs from Altay, Kamchatka, the Krasnoyarsk territory, the Arkhangelsk region and other regions of Russia, as well as representatives of WWF Russia, International Socio-Ecological Union, Non-profit partnership “Transparent World”, FSC Russia National Office, and Russian Bird Conservation Union Komi Regional Non-Profit Foundation “Silver Taiga” also took part in the discussion.

AgroUdora Representatives about Mezen River Sustainable Management

The local population represented the agricultural cooperative “AgroUdora”. Model River Project is Close to the Rural Population
| «Model river «Mezen» project by silverSilver Taiga representatives Przemyslaw Majewski (Director) and Valentina Semyashkina (Local Communities Project Manager) had a meeting with the representatives of AgroUdora Cooperative (Udora region of Komi) – population of Glotovo village – one of the oldest Komi settlements located along Mezen River. The meeting was held under Model River Mezen Project.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the goals and current activities of the project and to involve the local population into the project as it should be the key project participant.
