The Second Training Workshop for FSC Consultants Took Place in Komi
From 12-17 October, another training of the in-depth course on the environmental certification aspects was conducted in Komi – already for the second group of FSC consultants. Same as the first training held in September, it was organized by Silver Taiga within the framework of the joint project of of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF Russia) and Russian National Office of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC Russia).
The training workshop was conducted at the premises of the Finno-Ugric ethno-park in Yb, and its field part – on the Komi Model Forest demonstration objects and leased territories of the certified enterprises – “Mondi Syktyvkar” and “Luzales”. The main workshop leaders – Yury Pautov, the Silver Taiga Foundation Director, and Dmitry Kutepov, a representative of ASI Russia – have shared their knowledge and experience with the participants.
In spite of the quite severe weather conditions of October, 19 participants from different regions of Russia have visited the field routs with a great interest. According to their feedback, the course has proved to be very efficient, which was to a large extent thanks to the field trips, during which the participants had the opportunity to discuss the issues arising during the preparation for certification or audit directly on-site and share their experience in resolving difficult situations with each other.
Besides, in the opinion of most of the participants, the opportunity of direct communication between the course participants and teachers, invited experts and each other not only in the course of the training sessions, but also on the sidelines of the workshop was also of great importance. Creative and business-friendly atmosphere of the training has been formed in the process of “homework” preparation, discussion of the filed practice impressions and simply during the keen exchange of opinions on the most burning issues of the Russian forest management between the representatives of different regions, scientific schools and directions.
All of this has contributed to achieving the main objective of conducted trainings – preparation of the consultants, providing the wood processing enterprises with the services on the forest management certification according to the FSC scheme, and, accordingly, improvement of the FSC certification quality in Russia through professional advancement of the consultants.
