The History of Fishing on the Mezen
A museum corner “The history of the fishing on the Mezen” has been established in the National museum of the Udora district in the framework of the Model River Mezen project.
The exhibits representing the ancient fishing gear and other attributes of the traditional fishing are combined in a unified exposition with a banner showing the river views and the scheme of the Mezen basin at the background. Besides, the old photos, elements of the local fishermen equipment many attributes of which preserved the traditional family coat of arms – pasy – have been used in the exposition.
On June 30 a thematic excursion based on the new exposition was organized for a group of residents from Koslan – AgroUdora cooperative members. It was followed by the roundtable discussion “Traditional fishing on the Mezen and the problems of the contemporary river resources management “.
A presentation on the results of the first stage of the Model River Mezen project implementation has been delivered to the round table participants including the members of the “AgroUdora”, the representatives of the district committee for environmental conservation, the Udora division of the FSBI “Komirybvod”, and the Inspectorate for Fisheries. After that, a keen discussion on the Mezen problems, possible ways to restore the fish stock, and its further sustainable management has been held.
Excursions and other activities involving different groups of the population will be conducted based on this museum exposition. The meetings of the local residents with the members of the Working Group of the Model River Mezen project, the Silver Taiga Foundation employees, and the professional ichthyologists will also be continued.
