For Contribution to Sustainable Forest Management
The ecologist of Komi Regional Non-Profit Foundation “Silver Taiga” Elena Popova has been awarded by the Certificate of Honour of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Komi Republic. The head of the international and interregional programs department of the Ministry Tatjana Tyupenko handed the Certificate to Elena during the meeting of the Foundation’s Steering Committee not long ago.
Elena Popova has been working for Silver Taiga Foundation since 2009. Under the Foundation’s projects she is busy with such activities as «forest and landscape», «conservation of pristine forests and biodiversity», «consultations concerning the preparation of the companies to the forest certification», «education for the sustainable development», « development of the regional risks assessment regarding the FSC-controlled wood». Lena is a member of the greater part of the expeditions and field tours conducted by the Foundation over the last years in forest regions of the Komi Republic. She is also busy with organization and holding of consultations, courses and seminars concerning sustainable forest management for various categories of population – from schoolchildren and students to foresters and management bodies of the logging companies.
During the last years the number of international partners of the Foundation has increased due to the realization of the international project «Baltic Landscapes». In 2013, for example, Elena has actively participated in organization and holding of the following events in Komi Model Forest: seven-days field tour for the representatives of the State Forestry Service of Poland, eight-days field tour for the representatives of Polish University of natural sciences, field tours for the students and teachers of forest universities of Russia, for the representatives of the state-financed institution «Center for Special Protected Natural Areas» of the Komi Republic and others.
Besides the main job under the Foundation’s projects Elena is participating in different ecological acts, which are carried out in Syktyvkar and its suburbs, and also in ecological-educational events, initiated by other companies.
Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Komi Republic has duly appreciated the contribution of the young professional to the development of sustainable forest management in the Republic of Komi and to the environmental education of the population of the Republic.
