“The Mezen is able both to feed and to gladden, not to take care of it means to rob yourself!”
This was the motto of the weekly ecological expedition within the framework of the “Model river Mezen” project which took place in June and was attended by the pupils of different age living in the settlement Usogorsk and village Politovo of the Udora region.
The program of the expedition included sightseeing tours in the villages Patrakovo, Politovo, Latyuga of the rural settlement “Bolshaya Pyssa”, meetings with the local population, searching activities related to the study of toponymy of the neighborhood springs and other water objects, springs improvement…
In the village Bolshaya Pyssa the pupils with great interest met with a local resident, member of the Working group of the “Model river Mezen” project, Albert Vasilyevich Loginov, who had carried out a research centered around the origin of more than 300 names of taiga streams, small rivers, springs, meadows and other surrounding country.
The most part of the time the participants of the expedition were occupied with cleaning of the banks of the Mezen from rubbish. Notably, the volunteers didn’t simply remove the rubbish but also conducted explanatory work among the local population and posted banners-booklets addressed to those whom the cleanness of the Mezen banks depend on. Having examined the condition of the riverside in Politovo village the volunteers pointed out that such owners as Anatoly Andreevich Loginov and Sergey Gennadyevich Trofimov had the cleanest bank areas. They also had a talk with the owners of the most littered places. In this village the local deputy Leonid Danilovich Bushenev helped to the pupils by means of organization of the collected rubbish removal.
The banks of the river within the boundaries of the village Latyuga turned out to be the most littered with rubbish. Here the participants of the expedition had to carry out recultivation of the landfill site arranged not far from the bank – it was covered up with sand.
In general, the group of nine volunteers managed to clean the bank of the Mezen along the distance of 4 km – within the boundaries of three villages, as well as the bank of the lake near Ioanikieva cell which is quite popular both among the local population and tourists. In Bolshaya Pyssa and Chernutyevo, which were also visited by the pupils, the riverside was put in order by the locals.
Local residents Alexander Andreevich Loginov and Roman Ivanovich Loginov guided the group during the trip to Latyuga and Ioanikieva cell. On their return the participants of the expedition jointly with their teachers Diana Ivanovna Chuprova and Nadezhda Stepanovna Morozova started processing of the information about the condition of the Mezen riverside, collected during the trip, preparation of the photo stand and presentation, which will be used during their future work.
