AgroUdora Representatives about Mezen River Sustainable Management

Silver Taiga representative and at the same time the member of the Working Group of Model River Mezen Project Valentina Semyashkina had a meeting with the local population of Udora region of Komi. The local population represented the agricultural cooperative “AgroUdora”. The head of the cooperative Alexander Morozov and the head of the local fishery inspection Alexey Lenkov also participated in the meeting.

The local population got acquainted with the objectives, plans and the current activities of Model River Mezen project. The results of two expeditions along Mezen River (including the part of the river that belongs to the neighboring Arkhangelsk oblast) during 2010-2011 were also presented in the meeting.

It was also interesting and important to know the opinion of the local population concerning the project, their desire to participate in the fish resources regeneration and management under the cooperative.

Some other problems were discussed as well during the meeting, such as: river shallowing resulted in fish resources reduction; reorganization of fishery inspection resulted in poaching increase, etc.

Meetings and further cooperation with “AgroUdora” are important for project realization aiming at development of sustainable management of fish resources as the cooperative combines the most active people of Udora region interested in fish resources regeneration.
