HCVF Project Steering Committee Meeting was held
On the 28th of January Steering Committee meeting on the High Conservation Value Forests project, implemented by Silver Taiga Foundation in the Komi Republic, took place.
It will be recalled that this project has been funded by Mondi Group since the year 2008. The main objective of the project is searching for compromise solutions on conservation and sustainable development of the pristine forests in the priority regions of the Komi Republic and consolidation of these solutions, as well as experience dissemination in the Arkhangelsk region.
The Steering Committee is a well-balanced team consisting of representatives of authorities and forest management of the Komi Republic, as well as conservation organizations interested in solution of the HCVF problem, such as Greenpeace Russia, WWF Russia and FSC office in Russia. The role of the Steering Committee is to evaluate implementation of the project and approve the plans for the year 2011. Representatives of the timber industrial companies of the Komi Republic interested in solving the problems of identification, conservation and sustainable use of the HCVF on their lease territories were also invited to the meeting. Among them there were such companies as Mondi Syktyvkar, Leskom, Lesozavod, Head of the Forest Industrial Union of the Komi Republic and others.

Steering Committee noted substantial progress in the achievement of compromises on conservation of the most ecologically valuable forest areas of the Komi Republic and Arkhangelsk region and approved the plans for the year 2011. Some organizational issues of the Steering Committee activities were also solved during the meeting.
