The Village Koni is Expecting Guests
Within the framework of Forest Village project a touristic route called “Following Pitirim Sorokin” was developed. The guest house in the village Koni, which belongs to this route, is already functioning.
Koni is the village situated on the territory of Turya settlement, a birth-place of the world famous sociologist. Having acquainted with the history of old Turya, exposition of the local history museum and the monument named after Pitirim Sorokin, tourists have a rest at Svetlana Zhilina’s place, a spacious Komi guest house in Koni.
The next route point is the village Gam in Ust-Vymsky district, where Pitirim Sorokin studied. In the building of Gam two-year school remained since that time one can see many indications of the beginning of XX century and get close to the history of educational development in Komi.
The touristic route “Following Pitirim Sorokin” also includes other villages of Ust-Vymsky district. These places, nature, world-view, and culture of Komi peasants at the turn of XX century have nurtured an outstanding person. It means there are many things that are worth seeing and learning. Therefore, it is necessary to preserve this nature and culture, and introduce them to people.
However, the village Koni and Svetlana Zhilina’s guest house can be a separate place to visit. The whole group of age-old peasant houses of so-called Vymsky type was saved there in almost undisturbed condition. Moreover, the village Koni is included in the national monuments list of folk wooden architecture. And still there is no change. The ancient wooden chapel in the village churchyard continues dilapidating, though there is a sign “Listed Architectural Monument”. Old houses are abandoned…
Perhaps, only the initiative and efforts of the local population can breathe a new life into our villages. Organization of cultural and historical tours and creation of guest houses are the few examples of such initiative.
