Forest Village Project is Going On
An old Komi village Turja has joined the Forest Village Project. Turja is situated on the right bank of Vym River 60 km far from the center of Knyazhpogost region. Silver Taiga representatives have made an interview with the local population in Turja village.
The results of the interview will help to find appropriate ways of further development of the village. According to the local population a lack of the road to the center of the region and a lack of a constant bridge over Vym River is the main barrier of the economic and social development of the village.
At present there is no any industry in the village except collective farming. But the infrastructure is more or less preserved. There is school, medical institution, kindergarten, post office, library, shops etc. Thanks to the contribution of the local historian Olga Shlopova and other old residents the history of the village is preserved and supported carefully. There is a museum of a local lore and a folk-crafts studio in the village.
Nowadays the participants of Forest Village Project are looking for valuable local initiatives directed to the use of renewable nature resources in nine project villages. It has been planned to support these initiatives by educating local population, providing juridical assistance, organizing of training, giving soft credits or grants on a competitive basis.
