Schoolchildren Learned About Reservoirs’ Life in Winter

Role of oxygen in the aquatic organisms’ life and practical acquaintance with a fish kill phenomena were the subject of a visit to the lake close to Maksakovka village (not far from Syktyvkar). Silver Taiga ecologist, coordinator of Model River Mezen project Nikolay Shilov, pupils and teachers of the Republican Center of Environmental Education participated in this visit.

It should be specially noted that the event took place out of doors directly at the reservoir. The pupils learned a lot about the reservoir inhabitants’ life. Moreover, they did some not complicated research work, tested the water for proneness to fish kill phenomena and drilled the holes in the ice. Besides, the pupils got acquainted with the activity of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Komirybvod». The representatives of «Komirybvod» told about their efforts towards the fish kill phenomena prevention by the example of Udora district: sometimes it is necessary to drill up to 1200 holes on the lake.

In addition, the representative of the Emergencies Ministry told the pupils about the rules of conduct at the reservoir during the winter season.
