The Coordination Council: Silver Taiga Achievements Should Be Wildly Spread
During the skype meeting of Silver Taiga Coordination Council, which was held on February 26, the Coordination Council members considered and approved Silver Taiga annual working plans and the reports, discussed other current issues with regard to the projects realization.
As is known, the Coordination Council is a supreme management body of the Foundation, it manages the activity of the Foundation and ensures the compliance by the Foundation with the purposes in the interests of which the Foundation was created. The Coordination Council holds meetings whenever necessary, but not less than twice a year.
The objective of the last skype meeting was to discuss Silver Taiga reports for 2015 and plans for 2016. It is necessary according to Silver Taiga charter as well as the publication of the annual report on Silver Taiga web (everyone will have an opportunity to read Silver Taiga report for 2015 in the nearest future). All members of the Coordination Council highly appreciated the results of the High Conservation Value Forests project – the main project of the Foundation, which includes at the same time several subprojects. According to the Coordination Council members, Silver Taiga achievements should be widely spread not only on the regional level but also on the federal and international ones. It is possible to do, for example, with the help of WWF, International Model Forest Network and other similar resources as well as by means of the social web sites.
Besides, the Coordination Council members set a high value on Silver Taiga active cooperation with other agencies – scientific institutions, government bodies, NGOs in and outside the Komi Republic. Wide partnership and cooperation ensures coordination of actions and necessary public support.
Silver Taiga support of Komi Model Forest initiative was distinguished as the important part of the activity. It should be mentioned, that Komi Model Forest is now actually the only representative from Russia in the International Model Forest Network. At the same time, it has a strong potential for the forest areas development.
According to Marcelo Levy, The Coordination Council member from Canada, Silver Taiga should actively participate in the development and discussion of a new FSC-certification standard. Being an expert in this field Marcelo proposed his assistance in the estimation of new variants of the standard.
The next in-person meeting of the Coordination Council is going to be held in Syktyvkar in the beginning of June 2016.
