Mondi Syktyvkar is Going to Be Certified

Nowadays Finleskom ltd. is responsible for the logging process on leasing areas of Mondi Syktyvkar. Finleskom ltd. is a forest holding which combines all daughter logging companies of Mondi Syktyvkar in the Komi Republic. On November 13, 2009 a workshop on FSC-certification was organized for the leading specialists of Kortkeross, Noshul and Sysolskii departments of Finleskom ltd. The workshop was organized and conducted by Silver Taiga Foundation.

The participants of the workshop learned about voluntary FSC-certification, the process of forest management certification, main advantages of the certification. The discussion was also on requirements of principles and criteria of new Russian national FSC standard with regard to forest use, biodiversity and environment conservation, monitoring of ecological factors during logging operations.

At the end of November Silver Taiga Foundation also organized the workshop on FSC-certification for the specialists of Ust-Kulom department of Finleskom ltd. Due to the fact that the workshop was held in the forest it was possible to demonstrate the requirements of the certification in practice.

The similar workshop will be held in December 2009 for the specialists of Udora department of Finleskom ltd. Such seminars aim at teaching logging operators to fulfill a requirement of forest certification which is necessary to prepare for the audit.
